General Secretary’s statement

We, the Consumer Rights Bangladesh-CRB, have been agitating since 2012 to demand the amendment of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 and the establishment of a Ministry of Consumer Protection to protect consumer rights. Although CAB initially did not support our demand, since 2020 they have also started demanding the establishment of a Ministry of Consumer Protection through press conferences and newspaper columns. Because the reality is that it is not possible for a business-friendly Ministry of Commerce to protect the rights of consumers. The Ministry of Commerce has failed miserably in controlling the rise in commodity prices over the past few years due to poor planning and weak leadership. It is not possible for the National Consumer Rights Protection Department to do or say anything effective under them. So people are being exempted from fines for selling horrible adulterated products that can kill people. Traders are earning crores of rupees by adulteration and the state apparatus is earning millions of rupees by adulteration. But where is the justice? We want an end to such unethical practices that are against consumer rights. Although there are thousands of voluntary organizations working in the country, a class of dishonest officials of the administration created various obstacles to the organizations working on consumer rights. So that awareness is not created among the people. The main reason for this is that the mass production of adulterated products at the local level is not wasted. Consumer rights plagued by such exploitation. So the establishment of the Ministry of Consumer Protection is the demand of the time. In the wake of this demand, we are celebrating World Consumer Rights Day-202 this year on a limited scale.
